Another year, another dollar…
So December is winding down. This means it’s time for me to do a 2014 writing goals review.
How did I do? Did I accomplish all of them? Well . . . no 🙁
Fortunately.
Huh? Fortunately? Um, I think you need a big “UN” in front of that, little grasshopper.
Well, yes, technically. And I should be upset about that. Admittedly, I am a little disappointed, even if this year turned out to be NOTHING like what I expected.
But, in terms of goals, 2014 just shifted on me! Big Time. And instead of accomplishing my short-term goals, I accomplished two huge, long-term ones that I’d been working on for quite some time. Which ones you might ask. Well, they were . . .
Getting a publishing contract and a literary agent!
*Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* *flails to the floor*
Yeah, I still go crazy when I think about it.
Anwyay, due to these very important, very coveted events, my 2014 goals and priorities changed. Considerably. And my focus and time had to go to other projects for some TLC in the editing department—so not much new writing went on. Still, it was great 🙂 And, in then end, I did accomplished 50% of what I set out to do in 2014. Not stellar, but still, I won’t complain.
This is my original post: 2014 Goals
And here is the recap:
- Goal #1: Finish and publish Young Adult Urban Fantasy (‘cause this idea is fresh and there isn’t another YA novel like it out there. Trust me, I read A LOT of YA)
Status: Keeper was published. Yay!
- Goal #2: Start and finish Young Adult Contemporary (‘cause an awesome idea for one occurred to me and it begs to be written this year)
Status: Never got a chance to even start *cries*
- Goal #3: Start and finish Young Adult Horror (‘cause I think I was born to write horror, but for some reason it took me this long to realize it)
Status: I wrote it. I finished it. I really did! It is yet untitled and going through beta readers, but I can call it a success.
- Goal #4: Start, finish and publish New Adult Contemporary—3rd book in The G.A.P. Series (‘cause my NA readers demand it)
Status: Well, after the HarperVoyager contract for Ignite The Shadows, I decided to focus on my young adult work. YA is my first love, and even though I want to write it all, I need to accept that I can’t. I’m no super woman, no matter how much I’d like to believe that I am.

Great job on your 2014 accomplishments! Big CONGRATS on the agent and (especially) the publishing contract!!! Those are goals that many a writer never get to check off of their list! I can’t wait to see what you do in 2015!!! Keep those books a’comin’!
