I love hearing people talk about their writing process. Seeing how the creativity of others works is very interesting and there is much one can learn from it. But when people try to tell me that my process is wrong and I should write the way they do, well, I don’t like that so much.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for learning and always try to remain open minded about new methods to incorporate in my process, but it happens organically. Plus I always put my own spin on it.

When I run into one of these authors, I always wonder…don’t they know you can’t force anyone into a method that is not their own? You think they would, given that they’ve finished a book of their own. Completing a manuscript takes passion, patience, time and a load of other things that may or may not include tons of chocolate, cursing, wine… Therefore, they should understand that trying to work using techniques you aren’t comfortable or familiar with will pretty much spell disaster.

Just…no!

They should understand that someone’s method is their only method. It works for them; it keeps them on the path to the finish line; it makes the process fun and worth it. Their process is the best writing process for them. And it will change and grow with time as they continue to study and keep an open mind.

This is why I like sharing the way I do it, but never judge how others get to “the end” of their manuscript.

End of #BitchyPost.
